The protection of works of original authorship, such as writings, music, dramas, works of art and certain other intellectual works that have been expressed in tangible form. The Library of Congress registers copyrights which lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years. The owner of the copyright has the exclusive right to reproduce the copyrighted work, to prepare derivitive works, to distribute copies or phono records of the copyrighted work, to perform the copyrighted work publicly, or to display the copyright work publicly.
